Passport. Issues to Solon L. and Emily Severance by the U. S. Department of State. Signed by William H. Steward. The Severances were among the party of "Innocents Abroad," immortalized by their fellow tourist Mark Twain, who cruised in that uear on the S. S. "Quaker City" from New York to the Holy Land and back. The Severances are mentioned several times in Albert Bigelow Paine's biography of Mark Twain.
