30 Torrington Square -- W.C.
Friday
Dear Mr. Shields
I have copied from the printed
article jealously preserved by
my Mother, the sheet I send you
and of course do not want back.
I think the original came out
in a Manchester paper, but
our scrap is neither named
nor dated.
What you tell me of Lady
Mount Temple's liking my
book pleases me as you may
suppose.
[page 2]
Do you know that Mr. Brown
came up early this week with
his fine "Wycliff" picture to
stay a few days at William's?
and that our dear Mr. Scott
(W.B.) hs ben very ill but
was convalescent when last
we heard of him? My Mother
and I write in hoping that
you also are much better
and that letters from Mrs.
Shields (or still more welcome,
her presence) assure you that
she also has rallied. Lucy
[page three]
with two of the little girls is
still, I believe, at Manchester.
Always truly yours,
Christina G. Rossetti
[page 4]
consists of four ink sketches of a kneeling figure with a phrase scribbled in the lower right corner "what such penitence is meaning-"(?)
