Dear Sir,

Messrs Howe & Spalding at my request sent to you for sale some copies of my “Letters to a Young Gentleman.” I under- stand you decline the business. Will you then do me the favor to put them into the hands of some booke seller of reputation who will attend to the business? It is so long since I have been in Philadelphia, that I am unable to designate the proper person- & I must rely on your judgement & kindness to do this business for me. The price of the bookes bound is $1.79, in sheets 90 cents. If you will do me this favor, & just give me notice of the persons to whom the bookes are committed you will much oblige Sir, Your Obedt Sevt. Noah Webster [handwritten flourish]
